Vintage 2017 weather trend
The 2017 vintage was characterized by a cool and mild winter until the end of December. January was very dry while the entire months of February and March were characterized by the rigidity of the climate and the frequent snowfalls even at low altitudes up to the first half of May, where there was a temperature rise with highs around 30 ° C. For the following four months we have witnessed extreme thermal situations with highs that have touched 40 ° C, accompanied by very hot Scirocco winds. The manual selection of the 1911 sciara led to a slightly late harvest, due to the slow phenolic ripening of the area, bringing very sparse and concentrated bunches to the cellar, moreover the more basaltic and rocky soils guaranteed a greater thrust in depth and elegance. Our Erse Rosso 1911 expands to the nose with hints of violet, ash and eucalyptus leaf, has notes of spices, white pepper and ink, the palate has tannins that are still young but full-bodied, 2017 will surely be a project with great potential aging, which enhances the elegance of Rovittello by portraying a snapshot of a vineyard with unique characteristics.
